Volunteers clean Es Cavallet beach
By María V. R.
An increasing number of people on Ibiza are becoming actively aware of the need to protect our island’s natural beauty.  One example of this is a group of more than 70 volunteers who keep Es Cavallet beach clean. Greenheart Ibiza, based at Casita Verde, has been cleaning beaches for years through their program of Ibiza Limpia, and that initiative is now spawning other groups. This group of volunteers at Es Cavallet was organized by the biologist Agnès Torres and Gustavo Sánchez. They were joined by Ibiza Limpia and Voluntarios de Ibiza.

The volunteers were provided with gloves, buckets and pliers, and after a whole morning of work they managed to leave the beach in pristine condition. Agnés spoke to the group about the serious problem of contamination by microplastics. She also gave them the latest information on the availability of alternative biodegradable products. This kind of community action goes hand in hand with the new Balearic Waste Law that aims to put an end to disposable plastics by prohibiting various products such as coffee capsules, cotton swabs and plastic drinking straws.
