Ibiza is part of the EU energy plan
By María V. R.
The islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Mallorca have been included in a plan drawn up by the European Commission to promote the process of energy transition. A total of 25 islands in the European Union are part of this comprehensive plan to move away from fossil fuels toward sustainable energy. As part of this initiative Ibiza will receive the help of EU advisors and technicians in creating a program that will bring together a coalition of local governments, business leaders and citizens’ groups. The concept is to make Ibiza and other large islands a model for the conversion to clean and sustainable energy. This model can then be implemented throughout the continent. The plan is focused on islands because it is felt that the changes can be made more easily in the restricted space of an island. Once the template is proven on the islands it can be used on the mainland to optimize the resources of clean energy and replace fossil fuels.
